In this shoot, my plans were to take a series of images in Harlow town, at the top of a multi story car par, my aim was to portray the urban landscape. I wanted to focus the shoot on the top of the multi story car park because I would be able to see the surrounding landscape of the town from above and parts of the car park which are interesting. I used a tripod throughout the shoot.
This image is of the high-rise building that is on the top of the car park, it has recently been painted and so is a white, the frame of the shoot includes part of the flat, the top floor of the carpark, the lamppost, and the sky which serves as a blank grey backdrop. The choice to turn the image black and white, was because the whole scene was quite drab of colours, all the tonality of the surroundings were very light in tone, however with the contrast of the dark greys and blacks of the handrails against the blank neutral light sky, it makes for an atmospheric picture, as the shot is very blank and emotionless. The image has been taken to capture the urban landscape from the top floor of the car park, from the shot it appears very rundown and empty due to regeneration of the car park. The fairly large F stop is shown in the good depth of field within this image, the clarity of the shot which goes off into the distance is clear and visible.
In this shot the use of reflection is used to show the urban landscape of a neighbouring flat to the car park, as part of the flat is visible in the top half of the image, but appears overexposed since it's the only part of the image which a large amount of external light is in the image, and of course in the puddle that reveals more of the reflection of the building. This is an effective image as it shows a snapshot into the surrounding landscape whilst the image is being taken in the vicinity of the car park, I like the different levels of light, and the frame as the shot of the flat is almost symmetrical. The F stop of 9 has aided the photo with the large depth of field, as the distance doesn't seem to distort any part of the image. The 37.00mm focal length was so I could focus in on the main elements of the scene I wanted to capture, including the reflection and lighting and structure.
Review / Progression-
I am overall pleased without the outcome of the shoot, and have seemed to get some good shots, of the urban landscape of Harlow town. In the future I would like to shoot urban landscape at night to add another dimension to the shots, as it would exist solely on the use of light in the shot, and exposure times etc, I have previously shot at nighttime in shoot 6, where I focused on cars and exposure times to show them travelling at night. I think this would be a good idea to do again by shooting at night, however I won't repeat taking pictures of cars travelling again.
